Dark Waters[]
Toxic Invader[]
In Dark Waters, Jeremy Wade links the Cane Toad to mysterious happenings reported from Australia. He hears from scientists that the Cane Toads found in Western Australia have actually evolved 25% longer legs than their South American and Queensland counterparts. This has allowed them to spread at a phenomenal 50 kilometers per year whereas their previous speed was on average 2 kilometers per year. However, some animals may eventually adapt to the new order of this region as baby crocodiles will probably learn from the less lethal young Cane Toads that this species is to be avoided. Finally, Jeremy was able to catch a predatory Barramundi, showing that even fish like this that are famously aggressive have learned to avoid the deadly new invader.
Description[]
Cane Toads are native to South America, however, they are an invasive species in North America and Australia. They are famously toxic, and have taken a huge toll on native species that have accidentally consumed them.
Trivia[]
- It remains unknown if the Cane Toad population will be removed from Australia. However, there are officials working to help local wildlife.
- The only predators in Australia capable to eat Cane Toads without dying are the Australian Tarantula, Meat Ant, and Rakali.
