The Dorado Catfish is a species in the genus Brachyplatystoma, which are known as "goliath catfish" for their large size.

Mighty Rivers: The Amazon[]

In Mighty Rivers episode 5, "The Amazon", Jeremy Wade tracked the long migration of the Dorado Catfish across the Amazon river. This species is declining due to over fishing and pollution in some parts of the Amazon. Juveniles and sub adults must travel the river's entire length, meaning that small issues are much more deadly to this species than to others such as the Arapaima.

Description[]

The Dorado Catfish can grow to over six feet in length. They typically have platinum-colored heads and greenish-gold backs which taper into very light yellow undersides.
