Although the Gharlal resembels a crocodile, it is actually not the same thing as a crocodile. It is one of the world's rarest creatures, with only around 200 living in the wild.
River Monsters[]
It appeared in the River Monsters episode about the Goonch Catfish. Jeremy Wade was trying to find out the source of an incredible story. Someone was gruesomely mauled by something that he thought was dead. Jeremy believed that the gharial was the source of this story. However, two other stories of fishermen being pulled into the water, one to his death, were still not solved. This case ended with Jeremy hooking a potential Goonch, but it escaping after dragging him into the water.
Description[]
Male Gharial are notable for the weird blocks that they have above the front end of their snout. They are also quite large, growing to three-quarters of a ton. They generally live in Nepal and other higher up countries where the climate tends to be colder than places where most crocodiles live. Gharials are relatives of crocodiles, not completely crocodiles. They still live at lower elevations, however.
Gharial generally eat fish smaller than them, so they have a bite force much weaker than that of most crocodiles, especially the Saltwater crocodiles of Oceania.
