The huge Giant Japanese Salamander (Andrias japonicus; in Japanese: officially 大山椒魚 / オオサンショウウオ Ōsan Shōuo, but most commonly called there 半割 / ハンザキ Hanzaki) is the world's second largest salamander, after the critically endangered Giant Chinese Salamander. The Giant Chinese Salamander itself is causing the demise of the Japanese one. This is because of cross breeding. The cross breeding creates hybrids that are not members of the same species. Growing up to 1.5 meters in length, and 25 kilograms, the Giant Japanese Salamander is huge.

The Giant Japanese Salamander appears in Season 3 episode 6, "Cold Blooded Horror". In the episode, Jeremy Wade travels to Japan hunting the Kappa (in Japanese: 河童 / カッパ), a large predator said to drag children to their death. It leads him to the Giant Salamander. He only catches a small one, however he is able to see a relatively large hybrid.
