The Green Anaconda is the heaviest extant species of snake.
River Monsters[]
Lair of Giants[]
Jeremy saw a very large green anaconda curled up. However, its size was hard to tell. He stated that it was the largest snake he had ever seen.
Bone Crusher[]
In this episode Jeremy hunts down the source of disturbing reports of fishermen crushed to death. He ends up wrangling a 12 foot long specimen on a soccer field. However, he wants to find a larger one so he dives in a region where they are common. First he sees one similar in size to the one he already caught. However, this is only for a moment. Later he gets to dive with a very large individual that is around 20 feet long and 200 pounds.
Description[]
Basic Description[]
The Green Anaconda is the world's heaviest extant snake, possibly growing to over 25 feet long. Unfortunately, no one has ever confirmed that one has grown to 30 feet long, despite a 50,000 dollar bounty that has been in place since the early 1900s. Jeremy Wade heard reports of some growing "as wide as oil barrels" in a remote creek, however, he unfortunately could not track down any this large.
Interaction with other Species[]
The Green Anaconda is an apex predator of South America, predominantly the Amazon basin. It shares its trophic zone with Black Caiman and Jaguar, although it is sometimes considered to be a predator of the former. Jaguar have been known to kill Anaconda, although in some instances, the opposite result occurs, meaning that they probably share a relatively equal position on the food pyramid.
