The Huchen, or Danubian Salmon, is a member of the genus Hucho, a relative of the Taimen in Central Asia.

In Mighty Rivers: The Danube, Jeremy searched for someone who raises Huchen. Since there has been little done to save this fish, some decided to make it their goal to rescue it. They prepared a plant that raises Huchen. Jeremy visited a pond, and even held a Huchen in front of the camera.
Description[]
The Huchen is a fish that is listed by the IUCN as "Endangered", and is now remarkably rare especially on the main channel of the Danube. Jeremy Wade went to investigate, but everyone said that the Huchen was nothing but a distant memory. Jeremy then learned why.
Threats[]
The Huchen relies on the backwaters of the Danube, but people have piled up rocks on the banks putting the river in a "straitjacket". This is meant to help shipping, however, it has serious impacts on fish. None of the habitat that the Huchen relied on remained. Therefore, the numbers dropped dramatically.
