The King Salmon, also known as the Chinook Salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha), is the largest salmon species in the Western Hemisphere (the Mongolian Taimen is slightly larger).

River Monsters[]

Alaska's Cold Water Killer[]

It appeared in Season 7 episode 4, Alaska's Cold Water Killer. Jeremy Wade initially suspected it as the cause of several mysterious deaths, however it was dismissed after excessive evidence suggested that the victims were on their boats, far too many of them were killed, and they were killed in the estuary. He then suspected the Salmon Shark which was also dismissed.

Dark Waters[]

Alaska's Lost River Kings[]

In the second episode of Jeremy Wade's Dark Waters, Jeremy attempts to explain the dramatic reduction in King Salmon numbers. Since other Salmon runs seem so much stronger, Jeremy does not believe pollution can be blamed. King Salmon live in water that is too deep for bears to hunt, so he also does not feel like bears could be likely suspects. Locals take large amounts of fish from the river, but since the King salmon has become so scarce, they have started to rely more and more on Chum, Coho, Pink, and Sockeye Salmon. However, Salmon Sharks seem to take large amounts of Kings from the river mouth, and a recent increase in numbers of Resident Orcas seem to be having a big impact on the survivability of this species.
