Man-Eating Monster is the fourth episode of the sixth season of River Monsters.
Episode Description[]
For years, Jeremy Wade has hunted a legendary Amazon giant called the lau-lau, a creature said to swallow men whole. The evidence he needs, a single colossal specimen, has so far eluded him. This time he's more determined than ever.
Episode Summary[]
The episode begins with Jeremy discussing the Piraiba Catfish. In Season 1, Jeremy was able to catch a large specimen. However, he had long heard stories of truly massive individuals. He goes over an account by former United States President Theodore Roosevelt which discussed a very large Piraiba attacking a boat.
He decides to travel to Guyana to catch a large individual. He also investigates the story of a boy being attacked in a similar manner to President Roosevelt's account. However, the culprit of this story was a Black Caiman.
Jeremy travels deep into the jungles. He faces numerous setbacks. He also faces an intense rain, and his bait is hopelessly obscured by the rising waters. However, the sight of a rainbow one morning lifts his spirits.
During the night, Jeremy is fishing in a deep pool. His lure is bitten, and a long and intense fight ensues. However, he is able to pull in the fish, which turns out to be a very large Piraiba. It is measured to be over 250 pounds.
Trivia[]
- Uniquely in Season 6, Jeremy Wade is primarily searching for an individual fish as opposed to solving a mystery.
