Jeremy Wade traveled to the Mississippi River in the third episode of Mighty Rivers. He went to investigate the problems the river is facing. The river is facing an invasion from Asian Carp, which accidentally escaped a farm during a flood. It is also facing toxic runoff and severe algae blooms.

The Mississippi is the largest river in North America, and the second-largest drainage system only after Hudson Bay. One of its nicknames is "father of waters." It ranks as the world's fourteenth largest river by discharge, and fourth by length.
