River Monsters[]
Coral Reef Killer[]
Off the tropical islands of Sulawesi, Indonesia, a spate of mysterious attacks has occurred. A woman was snorkeling on a coral reef, when she was impaled through her eye by something in the water. She died soon after.
When Jeremy Wade hears the word "impale", he instantly suspects the Black Marlin, a huge fish that has been known to gruesomely stab its rostrum through people. However, it appears this attack happened far too close to shore to have been perpetrated by a huge Marlin.
Jeremy then suspects a stingray, but it seems that the victim showed no sign of being poisoned as a stab from a stingray would cause a blueish poisoned color around the wound. Jeremy is having also trouble figuring out how something smaller than a Marlin could have broken through the victim's thick goggles and her eyes. This is solved however when Jeremy figures out that the victim took off her goggles to say something before she was impaled.
Jeremy then goes to a floating village where he traces a spate of mysterious attacks to something the locals call the "Sari Fish". Jeremy sees one and identifies it as the Needlefish.
The Needlefish is rather small and short, however, it can launch very powerful bursts of speed and shoot itself out of the water and through body parts.
Description[]
Needlefish live in Oceanic, Brackish, and even Freshwater environments. Due to their slender body and jaw, they roughly resemble an even more elongated Garfish.
Trivia[]
- Contrary to popular belief the first episode to feature this fish is River Monsters Goes Tribal, not Coral Reef Killer.
