"I hope we have this on film, otherwise I think I might doubt the accuracy of my senses. Did I really see what I just saw?" Jeremy Wade, after seeing two Oarfish in a deep-sea encounter.
The Oarfish is a large marine fish. It is one of the longest in the world.
River Monsters[]
Deep Sea Demon[]
Jeremy Wade became one of the luckiest people on earth when he had an encounter with two Oarfish deep in the Mediterranean Sea.
On the trail of the source of the legend of the Sea Serpent Jeremy Wade suspected Moray Eels first, however eventually it became obvious that something else was behind it. In Thailand, the Naga (in Thai: นาค Nāga) looks very similar to the Oarfish, and in fact a photo of the Naga shows an Oarfish. However, when Jeremy realizes that the Oarfish is probably the true legend of the Sea Serpent he realizes how hard it will be to solve the case. More people have probably seen the Earth from Space than have seen a healthy oarfish close up.
However, someone in France calls Jeremy on Skype one evening. This man has had an extremely close encounter with the oarfish. Jeremy travels to the Mediterranean sea to a buoy where the encounter took place.
However, this will be an extremely technical dive and the only reference point will be the long chain. There is no shore for miles and the bottom is a mile and a half away. The surface is also far enough away that everything looks blue. After a long, hair raising, and un successful dive Jeremy returns to the surface fearing that he is not up to the task.
With only a few hours until the moment where oarfish mysteriously come close to the surface has perhaps passed Jeremy decides to dive in the night. However, that is cranking things up another notch. However, at the end of the dive he encounters two large oarfish. He even touches them. This probably ranks among Jeremy's most amazing encounters.
Description[]
The Oarfish is one of the most unmistakable fish. It is long and blueish grey. It also has several prominent tufts coming off of its head. Its mouth is shaped in a very singular way. Along with that, its tail has several fins coming off of it.
