Killers from the Abyss[]
In the River Monsters episode Killers From The Abyss, the RMS Laconia was the ship containing many hundreds of passengers that got torpedoed and sank in WWII. Some of the survivors from the attack were attacked while trying to get to shore, forming the basis of the episode where Jeremy investigates the fish that attacked these passengers.
But not all of the work was done by the Nazis. As survivors' accounts later told, something in the water was largely responsible for the deaths. Extreme angler Jeremy Wade set out to uncover the truth behind what really happened to the passengers of the RMS Laconia in the largest investigation of his entire career, which is covered in the episode Killers from the Abyss.
Description[]
She was torpedoed by a Nazi U-boat (U-156) commanded by Korvettenkapitän Werner von Hartenstein in September 1942 as it was sailing for England. Hartenstein tried to save passengers once he realized that it carried civilian passengers, but allied aircraft like the B-24 launched from Ascension Island attacked his U-boat forcing him to retreat. As a result of these actions, over 1,500 people lost their lives in the incident.
