Silent Assassin[]

Jeremy Wade travels to the remote Parana River in Argentina to investigate a fatal attack by a stingray on a young girl. The largest Stingray in South America is The Short-Tailed River Stingray, which Jeremy tries to catch. He sets up two fishing rods, however, one of them is less robust. This one receives a bite from a Short-Tailed River Stingray, which leads to a four-hour struggle. While Jeremy eventually pulls in the fish, it was longest struggle with any fish, and still ranks second in his career. However, the ray he brought in was between 250 and 280 pounds, one of the largest of the species ever seen.

Description[]

The Short-Tailed River Stingray distinguishes itself from the Thai Giant Freshwater Stingray (also known as the "whipray"), by differences in the tail. The Thai Stingray can have a remarkably long tail on occasion. On the other hand, the Short-Tailed River Stingray's tail is a lot shorter, and often described as a "club".

Much like the Thai "whipray", the Short-Tailed River Stingray has a tendency to attach itself to the bottom of the river, making catching it extremely difficult.
