The Tasmanian Giant Crayfish was featured in the penultimate episode of Jeremy Wade's Dark Waters.

Dark Waters[]

Jurassic River Beast[]

Jeremy Wade searched for remaining Crayfish, despite their extreme rarity. Jeremy Wade pinpointed their location based on the help of a guide and their bizarre behavior of hanging out near another species known as the Blackfish. Jeremy was able to catch two, one female that was roughly two pounds and twenty years old, and one male that was roughly fifty years old, and much larger. These crustaceans can do extreme damage with their claws, perhaps even being able to snap a human arm.

Description[]

Growing to 31 inches in length and 13 pounds in weight, the Tasmanian Giant Crayfish is the largest crustacean in the world. Being a member of the genus Astacopsis, there are two relative species living in Tasmania that are likewise belonging to this genus. Male Giant Crayfish have proportionally much larger pincers than female Crayfish, and thus have an even more dangerous snap. It can grow up as the of a dog.
