Jeremy Wade was drawn to the Congo by reports of some Catfish that grew to nearly 300 pounds. Also, years before, Jeremy had seen a very large Tsuni Catfish deep in the Congo and since the river is so remote, he believed giants could still exist.
He also investigated stories of a mermaid called "Mami Wata," which was thought by some to be extremely dangerous. Jeremy was able to catch a Tsuni Catfish, and believed that, given the equipment of many of the fishermen, bad weather, perhaps combined with a struggling catfish, could be fatal in some circumstances.
